Tactile Guide
Also known as: Tactile Jig, Tactile Fixture
A physical modification attached to equipment or tools that provides tactile directional feedback to guide a user through a task without relying on vision. In manufacturing and assembly settings, tactile guides are made from materials such as electrical tape, Dymo tape, metal pieces, magnets, or 3D-printed objects and are affixed to machines to help workers with visual impairments perform precise operations like sewing straight lines or aligning materials. Guides are typically customized based on individual needs — for example, thicker tape for workers who need more pronounced tactile feedback. The design of tactile guides is often collaborative, involving workers, trainers, and mechanics, and they can be quickly modified or replaced as tasks change.
