Reasonable Accommodation
Also known as: Workplace Accommodation, Job Accommodation
A modification or adjustment to a job, work environment, or the way work is typically performed that enables a qualified individual with a disability to perform essential job functions and enjoy equal employment opportunities. Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and similar legislation worldwide, employers are required to provide reasonable accommodations unless doing so would cause undue hardship. Accommodations can include physical modifications to workstations, assistive technology, flexible scheduling, modified training methods, task restructuring, and communication support. The concept of "reasonableness" involves balancing the effectiveness of the accommodation against its cost and impact on the organization, and the process should involve interactive dialogue between employer and employee.
