Diversity Equity and Inclusion

Also known as: DEI, Equity Diversity and Inclusion, EDI

An organizational framework and set of practices that recognizes, values, and actively supports the full participation of people from diverse backgrounds, including people with disabilities. Diversity refers to the presence of differences (disability, race, gender, culture, etc.); equity refers to fair access to opportunities by addressing systemic barriers; and inclusion refers to creating environments where all people feel welcomed, respected, and able to participate fully. In accessibility contexts, DEI initiatives support disability-inclusive hiring, accessible workplace design, accommodation processes, and organizational culture change. DEI work is particularly relevant for people with disabilities at the intersection of multiple marginalized identities, where compounding barriers can significantly impact employment and participation outcomes.
