Digital Barrier
Also known as: Digital Accessibility Barrier, ICT Barrier
Any aspect of a digital system, tool, or environment that prevents or hinders use by people with disabilities or older users. Digital barriers can include poor colour contrast, missing alternative text, incompatibility with screen readers, lack of keyboard navigation, absence of captions in video content, overly complex interfaces, and time-limited interactions. In workplace contexts, digital barriers in internal systems such as HR platforms, time tracking tools, and communication software can exclude employees with disabilities from full participation, limiting their employment opportunities and career progression.
