Touch Exploration

Also known as: Explore by Touch, Touch-Based Exploration

An interaction method that allows users to discover on-screen content by moving their finger across a touchscreen, receiving audio feedback about elements under the fingertip. Touch exploration is fundamental to how blind and low-vision users navigate mobile devices through screen readers like VoiceOver and TalkBack. It extends beyond standard UI navigation to include spatial image exploration, where users can touch different regions of an image to hear descriptions of objects at those locations, providing access to spatial relationships that text-only descriptions cannot convey.
