Learning Management System
Also known as: LMS
A software platform used to create, deliver, manage, and track educational content and learning activities. Common examples include Blackboard, Moodle, Canvas, and Google Classroom. In the context of accessibility, LMS platforms are critical because they serve as the primary gateway to education for many students, including those with disabilities. When an LMS is inaccessible — lacking screen reader compatibility, video captions, keyboard navigation, or proper semantic structure — it can effectively exclude disabled students from learning. The shift to online education during the COVID-19 pandemic made LMS accessibility an urgent equity issue for higher education institutions worldwide.
