Electromyography

Also known as: EMG, Electromyogram

Electromyography (EMG) is a technique for measuring the electrical activity produced by muscles when they contract or are at rest. In accessibility and assistive technology, EMG sensors placed on the skin can detect muscle activations even when there is no visible movement, making them valuable for gesture-based input systems for people with motor impairments. Unlike camera-based or inertial sensors that require physical movement to detect input, EMG can capture isometric muscle contractions, enabling interaction for users who have limited range of motion but retain some muscle control.
