Videoconferencing Accessibility
Also known as: Virtual Meeting Accessibility
The extent to which videoconferencing platforms like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Meet can be used effectively by people with disabilities. Key accessibility concerns include screen reader compatibility with meeting controls and features, captioning for deaf and hard of hearing participants, keyboard navigation for motor disabilities, and the ability to manage multiple simultaneous information streams (video, chat, participant lists, shared screens). Research has shown that no mainstream videoconferencing platform is fully accessible, and that accessibility challenges are particularly acute for meeting facilitators who must manage both hosting responsibilities and assistive technology simultaneously.
