Brain Fog
Also known as: Cognitive Fog, Mental Fog
Brain fog is a term used to describe a cluster of cognitive symptoms including difficulty concentrating, memory problems, mental fatigue, and reduced clarity of thought. It is commonly associated with chronic conditions such as fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, long COVID, lupus, and chronic fatigue syndrome, as well as side effects of certain medications. For digital accessibility, brain fog highlights the importance of clear content structure, plain language, reduced cognitive load, and the ability to save progress—design choices that benefit users who may experience fluctuating cognitive abilities throughout the day.
