Disability Services
Also known as: Disability Service Office, DSO, Disability Resource Center, DRC, Accessibility Services
Disability services refers to the office or department within an educational institution or organization responsible for coordinating accommodations and support for people with disabilities. In higher education, these offices verify disability documentation, issue accommodation letters to professors, arrange services like interpreters and captioners, and serve as intermediaries between students and faculty. Research shows that disability services offices are often under-resourced and that their processes can create friction, delays, and lack of transparency that place disproportionate labor on disabled students to secure the access they need.
