Americans with Disabilities Act
Also known as: ADA, ADA 1990
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is landmark US civil rights legislation enacted in 1990 that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life, including employment, education, transportation, and public accommodations. Title II covers state and local government services (including public universities), while Title III covers private entities open to the public. The ADA has been interpreted to apply to digital spaces, requiring websites and digital content of covered entities to be accessible. Along with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, it provides the primary legal framework for disability rights in the United States and has influenced accessibility legislation worldwide.
