Point Cloud

A set of data points in three-dimensional space, where each point represents a position on the surface of an object or environment, typically captured by depth cameras, LiDAR scanners, or photogrammetry. In accessibility applications, point clouds are used to create virtual representations of physical objects that can be mapped to real-world coordinates, enabling systems to track hand positions relative to a 3D model and determine which part of an object a user is touching. This approach allows any physical object to be made interactive without embedding electronics, as the digital annotation layer exists in the virtual point cloud rather than on the object itself.
