Speech-Language Pathology
Also known as: SLP, Speech Therapy, Speech-Language Therapy
A healthcare profession focused on the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of communication disorders, speech disorders, language disorders, cognitive-communication disorders, and swallowing difficulties. Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) work with individuals across the lifespan who have conditions affecting speech, language, cognition, and voice, including people with traumatic brain injury, stroke, aphasia, autism, and developmental disabilities. SLPs increasingly incorporate assistive technology, including voice assistants and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices, into treatment plans to support functional independence.
