Audio Fiction
Also known as: Audio Vignette, Audio Scenario
A speculative design research method that uses pre-recorded audio dialogues to present fictional scenarios depicting interactions with hypothetical future technologies. Audio fictions combine descriptions, dialogue, and sound effects to create immersive design probes that help participants envision and react to technologies that do not yet exist. The method is particularly well-suited for accessibility research involving blind and low vision participants, as it leverages the auditory modality these users are already expert in, and can elicit richer, more concrete responses than abstract interview questions about future technology.
