Conversational User Interface
Also known as: CUI, Conversational Interface, Dialogue Interface, CVUI
A user interface that enables interaction through natural language conversation, either via voice (spoken dialogue) or text (chat). Conversational user interfaces encompass voice assistants, chatbots, and dialogue systems that interpret user intent and respond in natural language rather than requiring users to navigate menus, buttons, or structured commands. For people with disabilities, CUIs offer an inherently accessible interaction modality that can reduce reliance on visual interfaces and complex keyboard shortcuts, though they introduce challenges around discoverability, error recovery, and maintaining user control over the interaction.
