Maker Education
Also known as: Making, Maker Movement, Makerspace Education
An educational approach that emphasizes hands-on learning through designing, building, and debugging physical artifacts using tools such as electronics, 3D printers, laser cutters, and microcontrollers. Maker education connects theoretical knowledge with practical skills by having students create functional devices and systems. For students with disabilities, maker activities present both opportunities for creative self-expression and significant barriers, particularly for blind and low vision students who face challenges with visually dependent tools like soldering irons, breadboards, and CAD-based circuit simulators. Accessible maker education requires multimodal tools, tactile feedback, and alternative verification methods.
