Spreadsheet Accessibility
Also known as: Accessible Spreadsheets
The design and implementation of spreadsheet documents and applications so they can be effectively used by people with disabilities, particularly screen reader users. Key considerations include consistent layout and structure, meaningful headers and labels, avoiding merged cells and complex formatting that disrupts linear navigation, providing text alternatives for embedded charts, and ensuring formulas and data validation features are operable via keyboard. Screen reader users face unique challenges with spreadsheets including difficulty obtaining an overview of content, understanding spatial relationships between elements, and navigating between non-adjacent cells for comparison.
