Nystagmus

Also known as: Involuntary Eye Movement, Dancing Eyes

A condition involving involuntary, repetitive, and rhythmic movements of the eyes, which can be horizontal, vertical, or rotary. Nystagmus can be congenital (present from birth) or acquired later in life due to neurological conditions, medications, or other causes. It often reduces visual acuity because the constant eye movement makes it difficult to fixate steadily on objects. For digital accessibility, nystagmus affects reading speed and may require larger text, screen magnification, or specific display settings to compensate for the reduced ability to maintain steady fixation.
