Magnification Factor

Also known as: Zoom Level, Magnification Level, Zoom Factor

The ratio by which screen content is enlarged when using a screen magnifier. A magnification factor of 2x means the content appears twice its original size, but only one quarter of the original screen area is visible at any given time. Choosing an appropriate magnification factor involves a trade-off: higher magnification makes text more readable but reduces the visible area, requiring more scrolling and navigation to access content. Research shows that preferred magnification level correlates linearly with visual acuity on a logarithmic scale, and that larger magnification factors significantly reduce reading speed.
