Smart Home

Also known as: Home Automation, Connected Home

A residence equipped with networked devices and systems that can be monitored and controlled remotely or automatically, including lighting, heating, security, and entertainment systems. Smart home technology has significant accessibility potential — enabling people with motor impairments, visual impairments, or cognitive disabilities to control their environment through voice commands, wearable devices, or automated routines rather than physical switches and controls. However, many smart home interfaces themselves present accessibility barriers, particularly reliance on touchscreen apps and visual-only feedback.
