Heads-Up Display
Also known as: HUD
A transparent or overlay display that presents information in the user's direct line of sight without requiring them to look away from their current viewpoint. Originally developed for aviation, HUDs are widely used in virtual and augmented reality to attach interface elements — such as captions, sign language interpreter videos, or navigation indicators — to the user's field of view so they remain visible regardless of head movement. In VR accessibility, HUD-based (always-visible) rendering of sign language interpreters reduces the chance of missing content but can diminish the sense of presence and create a less realistic experience.
