Convergence Insufficiency

Also known as: CI

A binocular vision disorder in which the eyes have difficulty turning inward (converging) to focus on nearby objects, causing symptoms such as double vision, eye strain, headaches, difficulty reading, and blurred vision during close work. Convergence insufficiency affects an estimated 5-8% of the population and can significantly impact academic performance, particularly for tasks requiring prolonged reading or screen use. In digital accessibility, convergence insufficiency is relevant because affected users may need larger text, increased spacing, reduced screen time, or specific display adjustments to comfortably interact with web content and educational tools. The condition is treatable through vision therapy exercises.
