Informal Caregiver
Also known as: Family Caregiver, Unpaid Caregiver
A person, typically a family member, friend, or neighbor, who provides unpaid assistance to someone with a disability, chronic illness, or age-related needs. Informal caregivers often help with daily activities, health management, and navigating information systems such as patient portals. In accessibility contexts, the role of informal caregivers is important to consider when designing assistive technologies, as tools can either increase or decrease a person's dependence on their caregivers.
