Vitiligo

A chronic skin condition in which patches of skin lose their pigment, resulting in irregular white or light areas on the body. Vitiligo can affect people of any skin tone but is more visually apparent on darker skin. The World Health Organization includes vitiligo under the umbrella of disability due to its potential impact on quality of life, including stigmatization and negative social attitudes. In digital accessibility contexts, vitiligo is relevant to discussions of disability representation in media and the importance of depicting diverse bodies in design assets, illustrations, and image descriptions.
