Paraplegia
A condition resulting from injury to the thoracic, lumbar, or sacral segments of the spinal cord, causing partial or complete loss of motor function and sensation in the legs, pelvis, and trunk while arm and hand function is preserved. People with paraplegia can typically use standard upper-body input devices like keyboards and game controllers but may face challenges with devices requiring lower-body input or full-body movement. Paraplegia requires life-long rehabilitation including exercises such as cycling, rowing, and arm ergometry to maintain health and prevent secondary complications.
