Rehabilitation Gaming
Also known as: Rehab Gaming, Therapeutic Gaming
The use of digital games that incorporate physical rehabilitation exercises into gameplay, transforming repetitive therapeutic movements into engaging interactive experiences. Rehabilitation games map exercises such as cycling, reaching, balancing, or arm movements to in-game controls, allowing patients to perform prescribed physical therapy while playing. Research has shown these games can be as clinically effective as traditional physiotherapy while also providing psychological benefits including increased motivation, sense of accomplishment, and active participation in recovery. Accessibility is critical in rehabilitation gaming, as patients' physical abilities vary widely even within the same condition.
