Exergaming
Also known as: Exercise Gaming, Active Gaming, Exergames
A category of digital games that require physical movement or exercise as the primary means of interaction, combining gameplay with physical activity. Exergames use motion sensors, pressure pads, cameras, cycling devices, or other physical interfaces to translate body movements into game controls. Examples include Wii Fit balance games and cycling-based games using stationary bikes. For people with disabilities, exergaming can make physical therapy more engaging but requires careful accessibility design to accommodate varying motor abilities — games that assume specific physical capabilities can exclude the very populations that would benefit most from gamified exercise.
