Optic Nerve Hypoplasia
Also known as: ONH
A congenital condition in which the optic nerve is underdeveloped, resulting in varying degrees of vision loss from mild visual impairment to complete blindness. It is one of the most common causes of visual impairment in children. People with optic nerve hypoplasia may experience reduced visual acuity, visual field defects, and difficulty with depth perception. The condition is non-progressive but permanent, and individuals may rely on screen readers, magnification software, or other assistive technologies depending on the severity of their vision loss.
