Anonymization
Also known as: Anonymity, Anonymous Communication
The process of concealing a person's identity when they create or share content, enabling participation in discussions about sensitive, personal, or controversial topics without fear of identification or reprisal. While anonymization is straightforward for users of written languages (text does not inherently reveal identity), it presents a significant accessibility barrier for sign language users, who must appear on video to communicate in their primary language. This creates an inequity where Deaf and Hard of Hearing signers cannot participate anonymously in online discourse the way hearing individuals can through text.
