Mental Health

Also known as: Mental Well-Being, Psychological Health

A state of well-being encompassing emotional, psychological, and social functioning, in which an individual can cope with normal stresses of life, work productively, and contribute to their community. Mental health conditions — including anxiety disorders, depression, bipolar disorder, and personality disorders — affect approximately one in three people worldwide at some point in their lives. In digital accessibility, mental health is increasingly recognized as an important dimension: people with mental health conditions may face barriers to technology use including cognitive overload, difficulty concentrating, sensitivity to certain content, and challenges navigating complex systems. Accessible design for mental health includes clear navigation, plain language, reduced cognitive load, and connections to support resources.
