Fitness Tracker

Also known as: Activity Tracker, Wearable Fitness Device

A wearable electronic device that monitors and records physical activity metrics such as steps taken, distance covered, calories burned, and heart rate. Most commercial fitness trackers use step-counting algorithms that rely on detecting the repetitive arm swing of walking, making them inaccessible to wheelchair users whose primary locomotion involves pushing wheels rather than stepping. This technological bias means that para-athletes and wheelchair users cannot accurately track even basic activity metrics, creating a significant gap in personal health monitoring and athletic performance tracking compared to able-bodied users.
