Gerontechnology

Also known as: Gerontech

An interdisciplinary field combining gerontology (the study of aging) and technology to design products, services, and environments that support the health, independence, and quality of life of older adults. Gerontechnology addresses the specific needs and abilities of aging populations, including declining cognitive function, reduced mobility, sensory impairments, and social isolation. The field emphasizes that technology should adapt to the abilities and preferences of older users rather than requiring them to adapt to technology, aligning closely with ability-based design and universal design principles.
