Developmental Disability

Also known as: DD, Developmental Disabilities

A group of conditions arising from impairments in physical, learning, language, or behavioral areas that begin during the developmental period, typically before age 22, and are expected to be lifelong. Developmental disabilities include intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and other conditions that affect day-to-day functioning. People with developmental disabilities may require support services including vocational training, community integration programs, mental health services, and assistive technology. The transition to digital and telehealth services during the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted gaps in how technology platforms accommodate the needs of this population.
