Early Intervention
Also known as: EI, Early Childhood Intervention
Early intervention refers to services and supports provided to infants and young children (typically from birth to age six) who have developmental delays, disabilities, or conditions that place them at risk for developmental difficulties. The aim is to reduce or compensate for developmental delays through therapeutic activities, sensory stimulation, and skill-building exercises. For children with visual impairments or cerebral visual impairment, early intervention often involves specialized therapists who use tools like light tables, high-contrast materials, and tactile toys to activate and stimulate the visual and motor systems during critical developmental windows.
