Accessibility Allyship
Also known as: Disability Allyship, A11y Allyship
The practice of non-disabled individuals actively supporting and advocating for people with disabilities by learning about accessibility barriers, amplifying disabled voices, and taking concrete actions to create more inclusive environments. In technology and computer science contexts, accessibility allyship involves developers and designers proactively building accessible products, integrating accessibility into their workflow rather than treating it as an afterthought, and centering the experiences of people with disabilities in design decisions. Effective allyship goes beyond simulation exercises — which can trivialize the daily experiences of disabled people — and instead emphasizes sustained engagement, education, and collaborative design with disability communities.
