ARKit
Also known as: Apple ARKit
ARKit is Apple's augmented reality development framework for iOS that enables developers to create AR experiences for iPhone and iPad. It uses the device's camera, motion sensors, and processor to detect surfaces, track movement, and place virtual 3D objects in the real world. For accessibility, ARKit presents both opportunities and challenges: while it powers useful applications in retail, education, and navigation, its primarily visual output means AR content is largely inaccessible to blind and low-vision users unless developers explicitly build accessible alternatives using VoiceOver integration and non-visual feedback mechanisms.
