Wrist Gesture

Also known as: Wrist-Based Gesture, Hand Gesture Input

A movement of the wrist or hand used as an input command for interacting with wearable devices, particularly smartwatches. Wrist gestures enable one-handed, eyes-free interaction by allowing users to control their device using the same hand that wears the watch, without needing to touch the screen. For people with visual impairments, wrist gestures are a promising alternative to touchscreen interaction on small smartwatch displays, though accessibility research has shown that gestures based on complex visual shapes (triangles, question marks) are difficult for blind users who may not have a visual mental model of those shapes. Accessible wrist gesture design should use simple, orientation-invariant movements and provide non-visual feedback.
