Connected TV

Also known as: Smart TV, Internet TV, CTV

A television set or set-top box that can connect to the Internet, providing access to interactive features beyond traditional broadcast content including streaming applications, electronic programme guides, web browsing, and app stores. Connected TVs present significant accessibility challenges for people with visual impairments because their interfaces are highly visual, lack screen reader support, and rely on remote controls with poor tactile feedback. Unlike smartphones and computers, TV platforms have limited accessibility ecosystems, making it difficult for blind users to navigate menus, select content, or use interactive features independently. Approaches to improving Connected TV accessibility include second-screen control via accessible smartphones, audio feedback of UI elements, and adaptive interfaces that detect user difficulties.
