Tactile Overlay

Also known as: Touch Overlay, Tactile Screen Overlay

A physical sheet or frame placed on top of a touchscreen or flat surface that provides raised tactile landmarks, borders, buttons, and contextual information for users who are blind or have low vision. Tactile overlays can be made from laser-cut cardboard, 3D printed materials, or thermoformed plastic, and typically include features like cut-out buttons with braille labels, raised reference lines, and orientation notches. They allow touchscreen devices to be used non-visually by providing a physical frame of reference, and can be combined with audio or dynamic elements to create interactive accessible displays.
