Ageing in Place
Also known as: Aging in Place
The ability of older adults to live independently and safely in their own home and community for as long as possible, regardless of age, income, or ability level. Ageing in place is increasingly promoted as an alternative to institutional care, supported by technologies such as health monitoring systems, smart home sensors, telehealth services, and assistive devices. However, the successful design of ageing-in-place technologies requires understanding the diverse needs, preferences, and attitudes of older adults — including their resistance to technologies that medicalise normal ageing or reduce face-to-face social contact.
