Bubble Cursor

Also known as: Area Cursor, Enhanced Area Cursor

An assistive pointing technique where the cursor's activation area is dynamically enlarged to make it easier to select targets on screen. Rather than requiring precise pixel-level accuracy, a bubble cursor expands its clickable region, effectively reducing the precision needed to select user interface elements. The bubble cursor can be adaptive, growing larger when more pointing errors are detected and shrinking when the user demonstrates stable control. This technique is particularly beneficial for older adults and people with motor impairments who experience difficulty with fine motor control, as it reduces the impact of tremors, overshooting, and imprecise movements without changing the visual layout of the web page.
