AODA

Also known as: Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act

Canadian provincial legislation enacted in 2005 that sets out a roadmap to make Ontario fully accessible by 2025. AODA establishes mandatory accessibility standards across five areas: customer service, information and communications, employment, transportation, and the design of public spaces. Under the Information and Communications Standards, organisations must make their websites and web content conform to WCAG 2.0 Level AA. AODA applies to both public and private sector organisations and includes enforcement mechanisms with penalties for non-compliance. It is one of the most comprehensive subnational accessibility laws globally and has influenced accessibility legislation in other Canadian provinces.
