Remediation
Also known as: Accessibility Remediation, Barrier Remediation
The process of identifying and fixing accessibility barriers in existing digital content, tools, or platforms after they have been created or deployed. Remediation is typically a reactive approach to accessibility, addressing problems found through audits or user complaints. While necessary for addressing existing barriers, a strategy based solely on remediation is widely considered insufficient and inefficient compared to building accessibility into design and development processes from the start, as it places significant burden on a few individuals and may be technically impossible when barriers are embedded in third-party systems.
