Web Accessibility Initiative

Also known as: WAI

A program of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) that develops strategies, standards, and supporting resources to make the web accessible to people with disabilities. Founded in 1997, WAI is responsible for producing the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), the Authoring Tool Accessibility Guidelines (ATAG), and the User Agent Accessibility Guidelines (UAAG), as well as the Accessible Rich Internet Applications (ARIA) specification. WAI brings together industry, disability organizations, accessibility researchers, and government to develop consensus-based accessibility standards.
