Enhanced Area Touch

Also known as: Area Touch, Expanded Touch Area

A touchscreen interaction technique that enlarges the effective touch point from a single pixel to a larger circular area, expanding both the motor space (the physical area the user needs to target) and the visual space (the on-screen representation of targets). When multiple targets fall within the expanded area, a disambiguation step helps the user select their intended target. This approach reduces the fine motor precision required for touchscreen interaction and is especially useful for people with hand tremor, limited dexterity, or other motor impairments who struggle with the small, densely packed targets common on mobile devices. The concept builds on area cursors research from desktop computing, adapted for the unique constraints of direct touch interfaces.
