Print Disability

Also known as: Print Impairment

A condition that prevents a person from effectively reading standard printed material. Print disabilities include blindness, low vision, dyslexia, and physical disabilities that make it difficult to hold or manipulate printed books. People with print disabilities rely on alternative formats such as screen readers, text-to-speech, braille, audio books, and large print. Making digital documents accessible — through proper text encoding, tagging, and structure — is essential for ensuring people with print disabilities can access the same content as sighted readers.
