Head Pointer

Also known as: Head Mouse, Head Tracking Device

An assistive technology input device that translates head movements into cursor movements on screen, allowing people who cannot use their hands or arms to control a computer. Head pointers can be physical devices (a stick or stylus mounted on a headband used to press keys) or camera-based systems that track head position to move the cursor. Users typically combine a head pointer with an on-screen keyboard or dwell-click software for text entry and selection. Research shows head pointer users tend to be accurate but slow, with pointing time heavily dependent on the distance between the cursor and the target, making navigation bars with closely grouped links particularly beneficial.
