End-User Customization
Also known as: User Customization, Personalisation
The ability for users to modify the presentation or behaviour of a digital interface according to their individual preferences and needs. In accessibility, end-user customization is particularly important because there is no universal profile for many disability groups — people with the same condition may have very different requirements. Common accessibility-related customizations include adjusting text size, font type, line spacing, colour contrast, background colour, and text alignment. Research with people with dyslexia has shown that text size, non-justified alignment, and link colour customization are the most valued features, and that customization tools should be easy to access, easy to use, and easy to explore.
