Accessibility Persona

Also known as: Disability Persona, Inclusive Persona

A detailed, realistic description of a hypothetical user with specific disabilities, assistive technology configurations, and usage contexts, used during design and evaluation to help teams consider accessibility requirements from the perspective of real people. Accessibility personas typically include information about the person's disability or condition, the assistive technologies they use, their level of technology experience, their goals and frustrations, and the barriers they commonly encounter. Research has shown that evaluating websites through the lens of accessibility personas helps novice evaluators develop empathy and understanding of diverse user needs, connect abstract accessibility guidelines to real-world impact, and identify barriers they might otherwise overlook.
