JIS X 8341-3
Also known as: JIS X 8341, Japanese Industrial Standard for Web Accessibility
JIS X 8341-3 is the Japanese Industrial Standard for web content accessibility, first published in 2004 by the Japanese Standards Association. The standard was developed with attention to harmonization with WCAG 1.0 and subsequently updated to align with WCAG 2.0. JIS X 8341-3 is significant because Section 67 of Japan's Industrial Standardization Law states that national and local public bodies must follow JIS standards, making it effectively mandatory for Japanese government websites. The standard addresses some Japan-specific requirements related to Han characters (Kanji ideographs) and Japanese language processing that international guidelines like WCAG do not cover. JIS X 8341-3 represents an important example of how international accessibility standards are adapted for national contexts while maintaining interoperability.
